Hydrangea in the pot blooms at the beginning of the year. From January you can enjoy this beautiful, elegant plant with many different colors at home. At home, the hydrangea provides coziness, style, a romantic atmosphere and is a real eye-catcher. The flowers are available in red, purple, pink, white, blue and green. Although we have to wait until the summer months in the garden, the indoor hydrangea is already in full bloom.
Indoor Hydrangea
The Hydrangea is very easy to clean as a houseplant. It works best at a temperature between 13 ° C and 18 ° C, no room above the heater. Water the Hydrangea regularly until daily, so that the soil does not dry out, if you prefer soft water. You can add vegetable food to the irrigation water. The plant rewards your good care with a wealth of flowers.
What do you need to know!
Due to the strong moisture-regulating effect, the Hydrangea contributes to good humidity in the home. Complaints such as dry skin, headaches and dry eyes diminish and you feel better with this indoor plant in the interior.
Second life: If the plant has blossomed in the house, give the hydrangea a second life in the garden, on the terrace or on the balcony as of May. During this time, the houseplant has the most energy to repair root damage. Then cut off the bleeding flowers. If it does not freeze, he can go outside. Place it in a spacious, light / shady place in the garden or place it in a large pot and give plenty of water in the first few weeks. In this way, there is often a nice second life outside.

Hydrangea as a garden plant
The care of hydrangea does not differ significantly from the care of many other plants. Although there are some specific things to keep in mind, they are all fairly simple.
Wat moet je weten
If you would like to plant the hydrangea in your garden, make a sufficiently large planting hole (in a lightly shaded area) and enrich the soil that you bring back around the roots in the hole with good compost. Slightly loosen the roots on the outside of the root ball by hand before putting the plant in the planting hole. This promotes good growth.
A Hydrangea needs a lot of water. Hydro means water and the plant loves it. In the summer months from mid-May to August, more of the plant evaporates than can be supplied by rain. In these months, it is therefore important that water is administered regularly.
Water is the main necessity of the plant. But the diet is important. If you want beautiful green leaves and beautiful big flowers, then a plant needs regular food.
With Hydrangeas, however, you can handle manure more economically. The plants then remain more compact and solid.

Blue Hydrangeas
Blue Hydrangeas even need little food, they are blue in poorer, acidic soils. When your blue-flowering hydrangea turns pink, you can fix it with a special hydrangea fertilizer (give it in the fall). This special fertilizer contains additional aluminum sulphate.
To grow Hydrangeas well and get more flowers every year, you have to prune them. The best time to prune a hydrangea is at the end of winter / early spring. Pruning consists of cutting withered flowers and stems. You must be careful not to cut off the onset of new buds that appear just below the extinct flower. Cut as high as possible directly under the flower.
As you can read, it’s pretty easy to take care of hydrangeas. With a little information and experience we can enjoy our beautiful plants in the garden.
